Two of the prominent Wildlife Sanctuaries in India form part of the state Uttarakhand. Jim Corbett Wildlife Sanctury and Rajaji National park
Jim Corbett Wildlife Sanctury with an estimated area of 520 Sq Kms can boast of high density tiger population. Situated in the Kumaon hills in Nainital district, Corbett National Park is covered by sal trees, grasslands and bamboo growth. An official census of the park put the population at 51 species of mammals, 580 species of birds, 26 species of reptiles and 7 species of amphibians. The main wildlife attractions are Tigers, Leopards, Elephants and crocodiles. The park, with its rich bio diversity also show cases rare bird-species both native and migratory that include bulbuls, parakeets, robins, hornbills, cuckoos and kingfishers.
